Christopher Lee said of his friend Peter Cushing who died in 1994 at the age of 81; “I don’t want to sound gloomy, but, at some point of your lives, every one of you will notice that you have in your life one person, one friend whom you love and care for very much. That person is so close to you that you are able to share some things only with him. For example, you can call that friend, and from the very first maniacal laugh or some other joke you will know who is at the other end of that line. We used to do that with him so often. And then when that person is gone, there will be nothing like that in your life ever again”. (Quote borrowed from the Peter Cushing Wikipedia page).

Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are without a doubt one of horror’s greatest classic pairings! Is it fair to ask which of these two wonderful talented actors are your favourite? Probably not, but here it is anyway…Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee?

  1. I can’t even think of one without thinking of the other. If I HAVE to choose one, I guess it’d be Lee, but only because he got better horror roles. I think Cushing was the better actor, though… just barely.

    • As a chick…I think 50s/60s Lee was sexy but Lee and Cushing have equal footing with me otherwise…if forced under torture…might go…

  2. What a beautiful quote from Christopher Lee about his longtime friend,Peter Cushing, and oh so true. I love them together in all their horror films. I enjoy the daylights out of Horror Express because they are both good guys!

  3. It’s too tough! I can’t decide,

  4. Lee, hands down. Nothing against Cushing, but Lee once shot a whole film as a Dracula who couldn’t talk, but could hiss like a cat! Which would be like Lugosi agreeing to play Frankenstein after Dracula, and then refusing any make-up after the filming had started. And actually getting away with it!

I’ve never heard of Cushing being nearly as bad-ass in real life.

    • I was gifted this great coffee table book called Hammer Glamour with amazing glossy pics of all the Hammer dames. Each woman has her own section with a little blurb where many of them comment on working with Lee and Cushing. The comments generally speaking were Lee was not a warm man and Cushing was everyone’s papa. I don’t think Cushing was ever bad-ass in real life.

  5. […] week I cruelly asked you to choose between Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Lee is intense-sexy-evil and Cushing is charismatic-cool-collectiveness and both are fecking […]

  6. Wow,so close. I honestly couldn’t make a choice in this poll! They are both just so darn great!
