Fun with GIFs: SWV Double Feature Dr. Sex & Wanda: The Sadistic Hypnotist

stepping into something weirdds

I have seen an awful lot of nudie cuties for this Something Weird Video Feature. Every last one of them has been full of corny humor most of which made me roll my eyes up. That said however, every last one of them has also featured one, if not multiple unforgettable bits of imagery. Dr. Sex has been one of my most popular Tumblr posts thanks to bulgy eyed guy featured in the banner above. The prints for both films on this Something Weird Video double feature were in rough shape. In its way it sort of adds to the charm. I actually rather like the rough look especially in the title sequences. So much so, I was inspired to make a GIF for each! Dr. Sex (1964). DESCRIPTION FROM THE SOMETHING WEIRD VIDEO WEBSITE:

An obsessed talking poodle who wants to be a man! A love-starved psychiatrist who wants to be a poodle! Sexy naked mannequins that come to life when their clothes are removed! And a house haunted by gorgeous naked ghosts that cook, water the plants, vacuum the floor, and do other domestic chores in the raw! They’re just some of the crackpot phenomena investigated by “the great psychoanalyst” DR. SEX in this wacky Nudie-Cutie cross between a skinflick and The Twilight Zone from cult director Ted V. Mikels (The Corpse Grinders), remastered from the only 35mm print around!

Dr. Sex (1964) directed by Ted V. Mikels, starring Victor Izay, Julia Calda, Max Joseph, Ave Lezli, Guido Lavotelli, Mario Barco, Bibo Tao, Marsha Jordan, Lolita Angeles, Giovanni Duvalier, Palva Itano, Nina Lucia and Chan Wingo.

My favourite part about Wanda The Sadistic Hypnotist was Wanda (Katharine Shubeck); that character is bat-shit crazy! And I loved Wanda’s wardrobe! For images from Wanda the Sadistic Hypnotist click here.

DESCRIPTION FROM THE SOMETHING WEIRD VIDEO WEBSITE:

Mild-mannered Sylvester goes from being the victim of a car crash to the Sex-Toy-in-Residence when he’s held prisoner by a cult of lingerie-clad sex-kittens led by WANDA THE SADISTIC HYPNOTIST! Armed with a riding crop and wild eyes, Wanda amuses herself by hypnotizing a door-to-door saleswoman into thinking she’s a go-go dancer, turning a lesbian into a man-hungry nympho, and making Sylvester parade around in a leather bikini. But Wanda’s party really kicks into high gear when it’s invaded by a “mentally demented” maniac who not only “cannot control his emotions when he’s near attractive females,” but finds Wanda’s secret supply of LSD.

Wanda (The Sadistic Hypnotist) (1969) directed by Greg Corarito, starring Katharine Shubeck, Richard Compton, Janine Sweet, Patty Roberts, Lindy Birde, Mary Weatler, Lynn Harris, Sheri Jackson, Linda Stiles, Iris Dawne, Estelle Murphy, Greg Corarito, Robert Luisi, Lauri Davis and Jean Rodgers.

I was especially impressed with the supplements on this double feature. Something Weird Video really outdid themselves with this package! I enjoyed every one of those hypnotic shorts they include in the set. I even did a tumblr post for Jane on a Train and Naked Devil Doll. I would have LOVED to have been able to get cleaner pictures for Dueling Divas as it is not everyday you get to see broads fencing in their lingerie!

  1. Could you recommend some books that have detailed reviews of the Something Weird type of films? I have Grindhouse, by Muller, Sleazoid Express, by Landis, and Psychotronic Guide, by Weldon.
    Thanks for your great reviews!

    • I have Sleazoid Express and Pyschotronic Guide in my own collection and they are top notch. The best source for obscure films is definitely FILM AS A SUBVERSIVE ART by Amos Vogel; a must read for any film lover. However, if it is specifically sleazier stuff you are after I highly recommend starting a collection of Adam Film World. I’ve picked up a few from ebay and they are absolute goldmines! This is where grindhouse gets some serious coverage! Just to give you an example Adam Film World from July 1969 has articles on LOVE CAMP 7, The Satanist, Royal Flesh, The Pleasure Machines, The Secret Sex Life of Romeo and Juliet and The Eye of the Cat! Some of these films have been lost forever!

      • Thanks. I have several of the Adam Film World, but not that one. Have you seen the doc, “That’s Sexploitation”, on the Fandor site? Really great!
