Vancouver Zombie Walk 2013

Another year of The Vancouver Zombie Walk has come and gone. All that remains are my pictures, my bloody dress and my hangover. Below is a slideshow I put together for this years walk; Images from The Vancouver Zombie Walk 2013 with music by Pierre Raph; Batterie Fields from Jean Rollin’s Requiem for a Vampire.

I included a shot of everything I used to do my zombie makeup. When it comes to things I am going to put on my skin I am sort of fussy. This Ben Nye stuff is theatre/movie grade makeup and I have never had a reaction to it. It also stays on better and applies nicer. It is well worth the price in my opinion. Ben Nye is not paying me to say that. The Ben Nye Death Wheel is an indispensable tool in any makeup kit. I started my makeup at 11 am and was ready to leave the house at 2:15. A lot of preparation is required when you are using latex. I headed over to my friend’s house for a drink and then off we went. We turned every head we passed as we walked the 8 or so blocks to The Vancouver Art Gallery. We had intended to get there earlier to take pictures but ended up getting there a couple of minutes before the walk started. People usually stand on the sidewalk and watch but this year for some reason people were on the road and it made a narrow path for us walking undead. I have no idea how many people showed up who were actually dressed like zombies but I think this year’s walk might have had the largest spectator turnout. Afterwards we went back to my friend’s for another drink before heading out again for a bite. Than we were off to The Waldorf for the After Party. I actually didn’t feel all that bad Sunday morning; all in all a good time was had by all.

It is all about William Castle up here (down here?) in the Dungeon right now as I work diligently to get my Castle posts completed prior to the event. There is so much I want to cover in August I am not entirely sure where to begin! I have several films sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be watched including Avant Garde: Volume 2 – Experimental Cinema 1928-1954, Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Something Weird (1967), Peter Fonda’s The Hired Hand (1971), Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker (1979), Stephen Sayadian’s Cafe Flesh (1982), Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Querelle (1982) & Whity (1971), Jesús Franco’s Sinner: Diary of a Nymphomaniac (1971) & Attack of the Robots (1966), Don Jones & Mikel Angel’s The Love Butcher (1975), Jan Nemec’s A Report on the Party and the Guests (1966), Alain Robbe-Grillet’s Playing with Fire (1975), Curtis Harrington’s TV Movie How Awful About Allan (1970), Joel Denning & Frank Lama’s Swarm of the Snakehead (2006) and last but certainly not least John Paizs’ Canadian curio Crime Wave (1985). Whether the aforementioned films get reviews will depend on how much I enjoy them. The past few years August has been zombie month in anticipation of The Vancouver Zombie Walk but I am going to bail on that idea this year. I will still be participating in the walk and it goes without saying there will be photographic proof of my attendance. There will definitely be a review for Walerian Borowczyk’s naughty and entertaining Dr. Jekyll and His Women (1981) and more entries in the Favourite Five Series. But for now, back to William Castle…

Cheers!
